On June 9 aboard the icebreaker "Krasin" Prime Minister of Norway met the representatives of the scientific Polar community. The meeting lasted 1 hour. Short presentations were reported to Mr Jens Stoltenberg, devoted to the actual problems of Arctic climate and to the dvelopment of the Russian-Norwegian cooperation in the polar research. Special attention was drawn to the cooperation under the umbrella of International Polar Year. After the presentations Prime Minister talked to scientists .

June 26 2007 Ocean-drilling Research Unveils Arctic Ocean History
The history of the Arctic ocean during the Cenozoic era (0-65 milion years ago) is largely unknown from direct evidence. Through analysis of a 428 meters sediment core extracted from the Lomonosov ridge in 2004, scientists from the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program's Arctic Coring Expedition (ACEX) were able to peer into the palaeoenvironmental history of the Arctic Ocean.
In the June 21 issue of Nature Magazine, ACEX researchers report that the Arctic Ocean changed from a landlocked body of water (a "lake stage") through a poorly oxygenated "estuarine sea" phase to a fully oxygenated ocean some 17.5 million years ago. They attribute the change in Arctic conditions to the evolution of the Fram Strait into a wider, deeper passageway that allowed an inflow of saline North Atlantic water into the Arctic Ocean.
June 25 2007 Spain to investigate the consequences of climate change in the Arctic
The Oceanography Research Ship Hesperides, carrying out two projects, will travel to the Arctic Ocean for the first time.
June 18, 2007. On June 20, the Hesperides will initiate the Spanish arctic campaign held in honour of the International Polar Year, co-ordinated in Spain by the Ministry of Science and Education (MEC). This is the first time the research ship, sailing from Vigo, will carry out projects in the Arctic Ocean. These projects are Spain’s contribution to the objectives of the Polar Year, an international initiative aimed at increasing the knowledge of polar regions and the implications of climate change on a global level.
