Traditionally, Midday in St-Petersburg is symbolized by the cannon shot from Peter and Paul Fortress.
On MArch 1, 2007 such a shot was given to open the International Polar Year.
The shot was given by Ivan Frolov, director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute and the President of organizational comeetee on IPY realization in St-Petersburg.
